JANESVILLE — Hello, my name is Matt Ellis, and I am excited to have joined The Gazette team as a sports reporter.
I started last week.
I’ve always enjoyed watching sports and talking to athletes about their experiences. The best part about the sports viewing experience is the stories told beyond the stat sheet. Whether it’s a legendary who’s leaving behind an impactful legacy, a senior who comes through in a clutch moment, or a program that is loved by their community, those stories deserve to be told and I’m thrilled to be the one to share them.
In my free time, I enjoy exploring Wisconsin’s nature and just being outside in general. Going disc golfing, hiking, and fishing are some of my favorite activities. Albeit, I’m not all too great at fishing.
My very first stories were published in the Royal Purple student newspaper at UW-Whitewater where I attended college. From there I’ve made it my mission to be the best sports reporter I can be. I can’t wait to get to work for The Gazette by covering the local community.
