Emergency response for possible HAZMAT incident at Rockford business

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — First responders were called to a possible hazardous material incident at a business on Sandy Hollow Road at Mulford Road on Friday.

Around 11:22 a.m., Rockford Fire Department responded to American Rigging and Millwright Service, at 5894 Sandy Hollow Road, for reports of a fire inside a stainless steel container that contained possible hazardous chemicals.

Multiple medical and fire personnel were called to the scene, along with a Mobile Ventilation Unit, and a HAZMAT team, along with assistance from the Blackhawk Fire Department.

It took 30 minutes to bring the fire under control, but the HAZMAT team found no air quality abnormalities, according to the fire department.

An environmental cleanup company was called to the scene, although no damage was reported to the building, and no one was injured.

The cause of the fire was ruled as accidental.
