Inmate found dead at Rock County jail

JANESVILLE, Wis. (WTVO) — An inmate was found dead in his cell at the Rock County Jail on Saturday.

According to the Rock County Jail, a correctional officer was conducting a routine security check and discovered an inmate hanging in his cell. Officials say the inmate was housed in a cell by himself.

Additional officers and jail medical staff responded to the scene and immediately started life-saving measures. Paramedics then took over advanced life-saving measures which were unsuccessful.

A death investigation will take place by the Rock County Medical Examiner staff, Rock County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau and the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.

The deceased, age 30, of Beloit, WI was taken into custody in April on criminal charges
and a probation violation.

An autopsy will be conducted on Monday in Madison at the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office.
