Police find rifle, crack cocaine, heroin in Rockford traffic stop

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Two men were arrested Saturday after police said a loaded rifle, over 20 grams of crack cocaine, and three grams of heroin during a traffic stop.

According to the Rockford Police Department, officers with the Specialized Community Oriented Police Enforcement (SCOPE) unit stopped a car in the 1300 block of Garrison Avenue around 8:05 p.m.

Police said the two occupants, Donald Ashford, Jr., 30, and Avonte Ross-Kindred, 26, of Sycamore, got out and attempted to walk away from the scene, but were arrested.

Ashford has been charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, No Valid Firearm Owner’s Identification, Possession with Intent to Deliver Cocaine, and Possession with Intent to Deliver Heroin.

Ross-Kindred was charged as having an outstanding warrant, a probation violation.

Both men were booked into the Winnebago County Jail.
