Linden Road to close to allow for I-39 construction work

CHERRY VALLEY, Ill. (WTVO) — A portion of Linden Road will be closed to traffic to remove a bridge as part of the I-39 bridge construction project.

Work already began in July on a $98.8 million I-39 and U.S. 20 interchange, which includes a new bridge on Linden Road that crosses the new southbound I-39 lanes.

According to the Illinois Department of Transporation, the road will be closed during the daytime on Monday, September 16th through Wednesday, September 18th.

Beginning Thursday, September 19th, the closure will be both during the daytime and nighttime.

IDOT expects the road to reopen by the end of the day on Friday, September 20th.

The duration of the closure is dependent on the weather, IDOT said in a press release.

According to IDOT, “The I-39 corridor in Rockford serves as a vital transportation link, facilitating the movement of goods, supporting industrial development, and contributing to the economic vitality of the region. Its intersection with I-90 creates a key interchange, connecting Rockford to national transportation networks and positioning the city as a significant transportation hub.  ”
