Authorities identify woman shot while driving in Rockford

Rockford Police Department officers are searching for a suspect after a 26-year-old woman was shot Wednesday night in the 1700 block of North Rockton Avenue, a news release said.

The woman was identified on Friday by the Winnebago County Coroner’s office as Justice Golden of Beloit, Wisconsin. An autopsy showed that at about 7:10 p.m. Wednesday Golden was shot multiple times.

A Rockford police spokeswoman in an email to the Rockford Register Star said Golden was driving a car when she was shot.

She was transported to a hospital by Rockford Fire Department personnel where she was pronounced dead about an hour later.

Rockford detectives investigating the killing identified as a suspect Demond Curry, 29, of Machesney Park, a man known to Golden. He is not in custody, police said.

Charges of first-degree murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon were authorized by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office.
