Man charged in residential shootout sentenced to 10 years in prison

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Lawndale Pelts, 36, will spend 10 years in prison after being convicted of participating in a shootout that took place in a residential neighborhood in Rockford in 2021.

According the U.S. Department of Justice, multiple people began shooting at each other on 41st Avenue on July 6th, 2021.

Pelts was captured on surveillance footage fleeing the scene and depositing a handgun in a residential yard as he fled. As a convicted felon, Pelts was prohibited from possessing firearms. He later lied to police about what happened when interviewed at a local hospital.

He was found guilty in May of Illegal Possession of a Firearm and was sentenced on Friday to federal prison.

Since 2007, he’s been convicted on a variety of charges, including fleeing police, attempted burglary, and dealing cocaine.
