Belvidere police say 15 year old tried to rob gas station with knife

Belvidere police have arrested a 15 year old for allegedly trying to rob a gas station with a knife.

According to a news release issued Friday by the Belvidere Police Department, the 15-year-old boy entered the Citgo gas station at 717 N. State St. shortly before 7:25 a.m. Wednesday, displayed a large knife, threatened the clerk and demanded merchandise.

The boy was not able to steal anything and fled.

Police were able to identify several individuals who assisted them in locating the boy, police said. Detectives interviewed him and seized evidence from a home.

The boy has been charged with attempted armed robbery.
