Man charged with reckless homicide after woman killed in Belvidere crash

BELVIDERE, Ill. (WTVO) — A man has been charged with Reckless Homicide for causing the death of a 44-year-old unidentified woman in a car crash on Saturday, according to Belvidere Police.

Authorities said Jesus Mendoza-Paz, 37, from Mundelein, was driving a 2004 white Chevrolet Express van and struck a 2015 GMC Sierra at US Route 20 east of Farmington Way in Belvidere around 8:20 p.m.

Both vehicles were severely damaged in the crash, and the woman, who was Mendoza-Paz’ passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the GMC Sierra was medically cleared at the scene.

Mendoza-Paz was taken to a hospital for treatment and later charged after detectives said he showed signs of impairment. An investigation of driving under the influence is still ongoing, and police said further charges may be possible.

The Boone County Coroner is attempting to identify the woman who was killed in the crash, and asks that anyone with information call 815-544-4470.
