The Stateline honors fallen Rockford officer by running a 5k

ROSCOE, Ill. (WTVO) — Family, friends and furry companions raced around Roscoe in support of Jaimie Cox, a fallen Rockford Police Officer and the foundation created in his name.

Adam Cox started the nonprofit in 2019 in honor of his cousin who was killed while conducting a traffic stop two years prior. He said the support has been unbelievable.

“Each of our fundraisers, the 5K today, we’re just blown away by the support, the ongoing support people show up for Jaimie, and it allows us to do a lot of good through the Jaimie Cox Foundation in Jaimie’s name,” said Cox.

In total, 300 participants ran in the 5K. Among the highlights, the foundation made a $10,000 donation to the Rockton Police Association’s Jaimie Cox Memorial Scholarship. Cox said the foundation continues to expand its reach.

“We’ve donated nearly $100,000 in the Rockford region to veterans, first responders, underprivileged youth, as well as organizations that support our community,” said Cox. “We also have a scholarship offered to Hononegah High School seniors. We’re really hoping to expand that through the Rockford region to the Rockford schools, and that’s one thing we’ll be working on.”
