Man with prior OWI convictions released pre-trial after DUI arrest at CherryVale Mall

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A man, who is unable to legally drink in Wisconsin due to multiple OWI arrests, was released from custody in Winnebago County after a DUI arrest at the CherryVale Mall on Saturday.

According to court records, Rockford Police encountered Joshua Reneson, 44, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, after multiple witnesses reported a reckless driver in the area of the mall around 7:59 p.m.

An officer spotted Reneson’s black Ram pickup truck straddling multiple stalls in the parking lot, and Reneson fumbling with his keys to the door.

According to the arrest report, Reneson’s “speech was slurred,” his eyes were “glossy,” and he “gave off an odor of an alcoholic beverage.”

The officer also noted a fresh puddle of urine on the ground. The officer “questioned Joshua on if the puddle was urine and he did not deny that it was.”

Authorities reportedly found a half-full bottle of Smirnoff vodka in Reneson’s backpack.

The arresting officer then said Reneson became combative, asking if he thought the officer would be faster in a draw than him. Backup was called, and the officers “unholstered” their Tasers at one point, causing Reneseon to surrender.
