Fire on Atwood Avenue causes $30K in damages

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) β€” Several local fire departments responded to a fire in a Rockford neighborhood Wednesday morning.

Around 11 a.m., fire officials said smoke was reported coming from a building near the intersection of Atwood Avenue and Wentworth Street, near Ingersoll Golf Course.

The fire was quickly extinguished, and no neighboring homes were affected.

β€œOn arrival the Fire Chief, she (saw) smoke showing from three sides (of the building. We) went to an offensive mode with the attack line,” said West Suburban Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Matt Niezgodzi.

One person was injured and treated at the scene.

Officials estimated around $30,000 in damages, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
