SPARTA, Wis. (WKBT) — An Illinois man faces homicide charges after a September crash that killed one person.
Shane Slater, 47, of Freeport, Illinois faces four felonies including 1st degree reckless homicide and homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.

Slater’s accused in a September 16 two-vehicle crash on I-90 East near Tomah. He was airlifted from the scene. The victim died in the crash.
According to the criminal complaint, police found alcohol and Delta 9 THC gummies in Slater’s vehicle. In his interview with police, he told them he did not know how he got to the site of the crash. He’d been driving from a tavern in Sparta earlier in the night.
Slater’s license had been revoked at the time. He has three prior OWI convictions, two in Wisconsin and one in Illinois.
In court Thursday, Slater was bound over for trial. He’s held on a $25,000 cash bond.
