Riverdahl Elementary students are gifted new coats in time for winter

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Students at Riverdahl Elementary gathered to receive the gift of warmth just in time for winter.

Each excited student unwrapped an early holiday gift from Operation Warm and Nicor Gas. Operation Warm is a national nonprofit that manufactures brand-new coats and shoes for children in need.

The organization partners with individuals, community organizations and corporations across North America to provide warmth and hope for children in need.

“We really believe in being citizens where we serve and our partnership with Operation Warm through our coat drives is really a way we can deliver warmth in another way and in a more special way this holiday season,” said Regional Affairs Manager of Nicor Gas Kevin Gadzala.

Wyatt Echavarria, a fifth grader at Riverdahl, said he greatly appreciates the new coat.

“It feels great. It’s so soft. I could wear this to bed. It’s so comfy,” said Echavarria.

Students could hardly mask their excitement as more of their classmates also received their gifts. Andrea Norton helped coordinate the giveaway for the school and said these gifts go a long way.
