JANESVILLE — The city of Janesville is proposing changes to one of East Milwaukee Street’s three-way stops, to make it an all-way stop.
City officials say that would help with traffic safety and simplify emergency vehicle routes
It would be part of the reconstruction of East Milwaukee Street from Atwood Ave to Ringold Street that is included in the city’s 2025 Street Rehabilitation Program.
City Engineer Brad Reents said new curb and gutter, asphalt and pavement markings are planned, as are a water main replacement and new sidewalks.
Reents said this intersection has the highest crash rating in the city. The current configuration has 54 conflicts which has led to the high number of crashes and injuries. He said in most of those cases people said that they were unsure who had the right of way.
The city is holding a project information meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 4., from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Fire Station #1, 303 Milton Ave. A public hearing is scheduled to occur during a Janesville City Council meeting on Dec. 9.
