Police: Rockford teens arrested for unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest

Two teenagers face gun charges after police say a traffic stop lead to the discovery of a loaded AR-15 pistol.

According to a news release from Rockford police, the incident took place Friday morning.

Police attempted to pull over a vehicle at Main Street and Belmont Avenue on the city’s northwest side with a 15-year-old boy got out of the vehicle ran on foot.

When he was taken into custody, police said officers recovered a loaded AR-15. The other occupant of the vehicle, a 17-year-old boy, was taken into custody as well.

The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office has authorized the following charges:

Juvenile male, 17, Rockford, obstructing identification (lodged in Juvenile Detention), aggravated unlawful use of a weapon (2 counts), no valid FOID, outstanding warrants

Juvenile male, 15, Rockford, resisting arrest (lodged in Juvenile Detention), aggravated unlawful use of a weapon (2 counts), no valid FOID
