City approves grocery store, townhouse development behind Forest Plaza

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford aldermen have approved a development plan to bring a convenience store, grocery store, and townhomes behind Forest Plaza, on South Mulford Road.

Developers Mustafa Abdall and Abdul Ahed got the go-ahead for their District 815 project from Rockford City Council on Monday night.

The project will also include a dry cleaner, community center, three office buildings, 28 duplexes, 25 four-unit buildings, and 16 four-unit townhomes.

Construction is expected to begin in early 2025 behind the Forest Plaza shopping center on E. State Street and Mulford.
