Police: Rockford man strangles woman, says he will ‘cut her ear off’ with a kitchen knife

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested Zachary Manning, 30, for allegedly strangling a woman among other accusations.

On Dec. 31, around 2 a.m., officers were called to the 1400 block of Yonge Street for reports of a man and woman fighting. When authorities arrived, the victim told police the incident had started over a pair of socks she was trying to find.

Manning started yelling at the woman and proceeded to punch the woman multiple times in the face, according to court records.

The victim attempted to leave the room, but the suspect started strangling her, officials reported. The woman said she eventually broke away from Manning.

The victim went on to tell officers the suspect threatened her with a kitchen knife and said he was going to “cut her ear off.”

Manning is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, domestic battery causing bodily harm, aggravated domestic battery causing strangulation and interfering with reporting domestic violence.

Manning is out of jail on pretrial release.
