Rockford’s Irish Rose Saloon listed for sale

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Irish Rose Saloon in downtown Rockford is for sale.

Owner Mike Leifheit died in February 2024, at age 78.

Leifheit owned the bar for 43 years. The building formerly housed The Stop Tap and Ma’s Cafe, which he restored to much of its original 1880s architecture.

Leifheit’s illness forced the Irish Rose to close in February of 2023.

According to a real estate listing , the two-story mixed-use building — which houses a restaurant and bar on the first floor and two apartments on the second — is on the market for $510,000.

“Ideal for potential buyers looking to tap into a dynamic urban environment with historical charm, this corner building offers both an exceptional location and built-in amenities to facilitate a smooth transition to operations or redevelopment,” the listing reads.
