OGLE COUNTY, Ill. (WTVO) — A 21-year-old man from Pecatonica, with a suspended license and no insurance, led police in a 30-mile chase across two counties Monday evening, at speeds that reached 125 mph.
According to the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to stop Jered Vautsmeier on West Route 64, north of Polo, around 6:24 p.m., but Vautsmeier reportedly sped away.
Ogle County deputies said they terminated the pursuit out of safety concerns, but other deputies acquired Vautsmeier’s vehicle in Leaf River and tried to stop him, but he again fled north into Winnebago County.
Authorities said Ogle County law enforcement along with Pecatonica Police were finally able to capture Vautsmeier, and that Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies and Illinois State Police troopers were all involved in the case.
He faces charges of aggravated fleeing to elude, obstructing identification, obstructing justice, speeding 125 mph in a 55 mph zone, fleeing attempting to elude an officer, improper lane usage, disregarding a traffic control device, driving on a suspended license, improper display of registration, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
