Police presence in Rockford neighborhood following overnight shooting

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police are in the area of Rural Street, shutting down access from Prospect to Fairview on Wednesday morning, after a man was hospitalized in Rockford overnight after a shooting, according to police.

As of 8:45 a.m., police said the situation is an “active investigation” and have closed intersections for several blocks.

Neighbors said police were stopping cars leaving the perimeter.

At 5:30 a.m., authorities said shots rang out in the 600 block of Rome Avenue, near Rural Street.

Police said the victim was taken to a local hospital and was expected to survive.

No suspect information was released, and no arrests were announced.

The shooting is the second in two days: on Tuesday, a man was shot across town in the 600 block of Ranger Street, at the Orton Keyes apartment complex. The victim in that incident suffered minor injuries, police said.
