ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Despite logging our coldest temperatures of winter earlier Wednesday morning, the Stateline witnessed the first step of a temperature recovery during the daytime, and further warming is on the way.
The return of clouds and a southwesterly wind will keep temperatures in the teens overnight, and it’s entirely possible we could even rise a few degrees in a spot or two. With that said, an Alberta Clipper system is fast approaching, and could bring a quick shot of scattered snow showers this evening. Accumulations aren’t expected, though bridges and overpasses could become a bit slick.
Clouds are to stick around for most, if not all of the day Thursday, though temperatures are still likely to warm into the middle 30s.
The odds of seeing much more sunshine on Friday aren’t great, though it’s possible that we see at least some sun in the afternoon. Regardless, a strong southerly wind will blow, allowing temperatures to surge into the lower 40s.
The warmth, however, will be extremely short-lived. A powerhouse cold front will barrel through the region Friday night into early Saturday morning. While temperatures on Saturday will top out in the middle 20s, that’ll likely be in the morning, with temperatures likely falling steadily as the day progresses…
