STATELINE. (WIFR) – On Wednesday, the stateline ended astronomical winter in a wild fashion. We had severe thunderstorms, gusty winds and even some snowfall. To add onto the craziness, there were some reports of a “muddy rain” leaving residue on our cars and sidewalks.
To figure out what or where this residue came from, we have to look out to the southwest in Oklahoma and Texas where wild fires are raging. The smoke, dust and ash from those fires were lifted up into the atmosphere and transported by the massive low pressure system. Winds forced all of those particles northeast, eventually reaching the stateline.
Showers and thunderstorms developed overtop of this pocket of particles where the falling rain brought the dirt and dust down to the ground…
