Rockford, state police increase efforts to curb distracted driving

(WIFR) – Every day, nine people in the United States are killed in crashes that involve a distracted driver, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The month of April is considered Distracted Driving Awareness Month. So, the Rockford Police Department is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police, and more than 200 other local law enforcement agencies to step up enforcements across the state.

“At the end of the day if everyone would just do the right thing and follow the law, put the phone down, and completely disable the distractions, we could end it definitely. And with patrol efforts, I think that definitely makes a difference as well and I think were on a good track,” said Shafer McKune, an Illinois State Police trooper…
