More than a dozen displaced, one woman seriously injured as crews battle two separate Rockford apartment fires.

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – An active Sunday for Stateline crews after two separate apartment fires break out in Rockford about four hours apart.

The first fire started around 9:10 a.m. in the 600 block of South New Towne Road, right across the street from Rockford District Three Police Headquarters. Investigators say a woman had to be rescued from inside one apartment unit. She was taken to a local hospital where she’s in serious condition. The fire was contained to one unit with an estimated $40,000 in damages. A family of four was displaced and is working with the Red Cross to find temporary housing.

Around 1 p.m. Sunday, many of the same crews responded to a fire at an 11-unit apartment building in the 3100 block of Meriday Lane in Rockford, near Sandy Hollow Golf Course. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from the first floor of the structure. Four units suffered significant damage totaling about $100,000. A man had to be rescued from the third floor but there were no injuries. Investigators say faulty electrical wiring started the fire…
