FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) – Freeport police ask anyone with information to come forward after two reports of shots fired in the same area, less than two hours apart.
Just after 11 p.m. May 3, police received a report of two gunshots in the 1200 block of S. Oak Avenue. When they arrived, officers say they learned two people were standing near the street and it’s believed one person shot at a dark colored SUV as it drove north on Oak Avenue. The two reportedly ran west behind a house in the vicinity.
Just after 12:45 a.m. May 4, an officer patrolling the area of Oak Avenue and Empire Street reported hearing two gunshots just west of his location in the 200 block of W. Empire Street. Officers say they believe the gunshots were fired by someone standing in a group of other people in the front yard oof a home. Police say the group ran to the backyard after the shots were fired. When officers searched the area, they reported finding a high capacity drum magazine, 9mm ammunition and a firearm believed to have been used.
Police say they have not received reports of injuries or property damage…
