New owners believe Masonic Temple can be more

BELOIT – The new owners of the Masonic Temple at 229 W. Grand Ave. want to make the building and its neighboring parking lot more of a community gathering place.

Marco Chavez, Juan Chavez and Juan Chavez Jr. bought the building from the Trustees of Morning Star Lodge #10 in December for $200,000. On Monday, the trio asked the Beloit City Council to change its zoning from C-1 Office District to C-2 Neighborhood Commercial District.

That would allow the Chavezes to use the parking lot for food trucks with liquor sales and use the building for retail or event space. The family owns the Dona Concha Mexican Food trucks that make the rounds in Beloit, Janesville and Rockford, Illinois…
