ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Historians, veterans, and Rockford residents gathered at Veterans Memorial Hall to learn more about the history of local abolitionists at a “Civil War Roundtable.”
The event was hosted by Vietnam veteran Stanley Campbell, who brought along newspapers from the 1830s, which were used to spread the message about the horrors of slavery faced in the South.
