A Rockford teenager is facing serious charges after an incident on the city’s northwest side Monday evening (5/5).
Juvenile Suspect Displayed Firearm After Alleged Theft
According to a Rockford Police Department press release, officers were dispatched to the Citgo station at 3005 N. Rockton Avenue, where reports of a robbery involving a firearm.
Investigators say the teen was observed taking items without paying. When an employee confronted him, the suspect allegedly brandished a firearm and made verbal threats before fleeing the scene.
Suspect Found With Loaded Gun and Stolen Goods
Officers quickly located the juvenile nearby, and Rockford Police report that the suspect was in possession of both stolen property and a loaded firearm at the time he was arrested.
The 13-year-old was taken into custody without incident and is lodged in Winnebago County Juvenile Detention, where he faces the following charges:
- Armed Robbery
- Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon
- Possession of a Firearm Without a Valid FOID
These charges are all allegations, and the suspect is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
