ROCKFORD — A local family has opened a new michoacana on the city’s south side that offers a mix of classic ice cream flavors and traditional Mexican treats.
Cool Zone Michoacana, at 2607 20th St. across from Aldi, is the first business run by the Casas family. Jonas Casas said they wanted to give kids and families in the nearby neighborhoods a closer option for a cool treat.
“We’ve been living in this neighborhood for 15 years now, and all of those 15 years we’ve never seen an ice cream shop around here,” he said. “Now they don’t have to go all they way down to Broadway, all the way to State Street. It’s something closer to the neighborhood.”…
