Imagine Dave Portnoy galloping into Chicago like a carb-craving crusader, armed with a camera, a crisp slice, and his legendary “One Bite, Everybody Knows the Rules” mantra. This time, his tastebuds led him to a longtime neighborhood favorite with old-school vibes and thin-crust pride.
The Quest for Pizza Greatness Continues
Recently, Dave visited Dino’s Pizza & Italian Restaurant. If you’ve been following Dave’s pizza pilgrimage through Illinois, you know the guy does not hand out high scores like free Parmesan packets.
So, How DId Dino’s Score?
After some classic Portnoy commentary, calling the place “super old-school” and praising the “Coca-Cola 1970s sign out front”, Dave went in on the slice. He admired the structure, called it a “very good tavern-style” pizza, and ultimately landed a 7.4.
That places Dino’s in the same spot as Chicago’s very popular Pequod’s (7.4). Right behind Barnaby’s (7.8), and Vito & Nick’s (8.1). Not bad company to be in, especially in the land of deep dish and sausage dominance.
The highest score ever given to an Illinois pizza was an 8.4, given to Giordano’s.
When’s the Rockford Review, Dave?
As always, we can’t help but wonder, when will our beloved 815 get a bite of the spotlight? Rockford’s got plenty of pizza joints ready for the Portnoy treatment, and we’re more than willing to provide directions, recommendations, and possibly a folding table for the review setup…
