Giardini brothers and Rockford East wrestlers inducted into the RPS 205 Hall of Fame

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — Sunday was a special day for District 205 in Rockford and for everyone associated with East High School. District 205 held its annual Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony.East High School has a rich history in football and wrestling. That was on display Sunday at the Illinois Bank and Trust Pavilion at Aldeen Golf Club. East’s 1997-98 wrestling team was inducted into the hall of fame. That team finished third in the state. That was the first team from the NIC-10 ever to earn a state trophy.Also, the head coach of that team, Perry Giardini was inducted. He was also the head coach of East’s state championship football team in 1985.The wrestling team presented him with a T-shirt that said “Beastmaster” across the front. That was a badge of honor for all wrestlers at East back in Giardini’s days as coach.Perry’s older brother Gary was also inducted into the hall of fame.
