Tinker Swiss Cottage celebrates 160 years of inspiring Rockford community

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Janet Schultz welcomes the next visitors into the library inside the Tinker Swiss Cottage.

The volunteer guide speaks from her notes beside a spiral staircase made from one piece of wood.

“I was looking at retirement, and my daughter-in-law said you need something to do, and she knew I loved history,” said Schultz, who’s volunteered at Tinker for five years. Although she calls Belvidere home, the former Rockford resident finds joy under the Tinker’s roof.

“The people that work here are wonderful,” complimented Schultz. The volunteer is one of several presenting information on the historic cottage’s rooms and artifacts. “They make volunteering fun. They really appreciate it.”…
