Details revealed as man allegedly kills daughter-in-law outside suburban wedding over divorce papers

More details are expected to be released after an Illinois man allegedly shot and killed his daughter-in-law over a divorce filing while at a wedding in the Chicago suburbs makes his first court appearance Monday.

Roland Schmidt, 76, of Stillman Valley, was charged with first-degree murder, according to the Schaumburg Police Department. Schmidt is expected to appear at courthouse in Rolling Meadows for a detention hearing Monday, a release from the Schaumburg Police Department said.

Police were called to the scene about 10:15 p.m. Friday after reports of a shooting in the parking lot of a Marriott Hotel, at 50 N. Martingale Road, the release said.
