Car theft surge targets Kia models in Loves Park

LOVES PARK, Ill. (WTVO) — Loves Park Police are warning residents of a recent rise in car thefts targeting certain Kia models.

According to police, Kia cars made between 2011 and 2019 are most at risk, due to a traditional key ignition that can be bypassed by thieves tampering with the steering column.

Police suggest using a steering wheel lock or aftermarket alarm or kill switch to protect the vehicle, or park in a garage or well-lit, busy area…
