Belvidere works to clean up storm damage after powerful straight-line winds

BELVIDERE, Ill. (WIFR) – The city of Belvidere works to clean up widespread storm damage caused by straight line winds Saturday, according to emergency officials.

The Belvidere Fire Department says it, along with mutual aid agencies, responded to 51 calls for service, with the first call coming in just before 4 p.m. Aug. 16.

Belvidere Fire Chief Shawn Schadle says numerous power poles were snapped and several trees struck homes, cars, and buildings. In the midst of the storm, ComEd advised it could no longer take individual reports of downed lines due to the overwhelming volume of damage…
