ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – The newly acquired land protects part of an old growth forest and preserves the rural character of the area.
The Natural Land Institute bought 20.5 acres of land along the north side of Blair Road including a portion bordering Best Road on the east side.
The land is across the road from the Pecatonica Wetlands Forest Preserve and protects a complex of natural land. It also protects a nesting habitat for several birds on the Illinois Wildlife Action Plan including the Red-headed Woodpecker, Northern “Yellow-shafter” Flicker, Acadian Flycatcher and Wood Thrush…
