Scammers use tap-to-pay fraud schemes to steal money, BBB says

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – New technology introduces new scams, according to the Better Business Bureau, including the new “ghost tapping” scam.

Scammers can use handheld wireless payment devices that only need to be within a few feet of the target to receive payment through tap-to-pay.

“Ghost tapping is especially dangerous when the target’s debit card is involved,” said Dennis Horton Senior Director of the BBB Regional Office. “The crooks can quickly drain a person’s bank account or make credit card charges.”…
