Rockford-area veterans, community honors America’s unreturned veterans

LOVES PARK, Ill. (WIFR) – Friday, veterans, families, and community members came together to remember the brave service members held as prisoners of war and those who remain missing.

Friday, September 19, marks the National POW/MIA Recognition Day.

National Missing in Action and Prisoners of War Recognition Day is observed on the third Friday of September each year. The POW/MIA flag originated in 1971 during the Vietnam War and was driven by the wives of missing service members.
