The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety & Inspection Service (FSIS) announced a nationwide recall of approximately 58,000,000 pounds of corn dog and sausage-on-a-stick products.
Why the Corn Dogs Are Being Recalled
The impacted products, manufactured by Texas-based The Hillshire Brands Company, are being recalled after it was discovered that the batter used to bread the products may be contaminated with wood.
The issue surfaced after multiple consumer complaints, including five reported injuries. Hillshire’s investigation indicates wooden sticks entered the line before battering, which led to wood pieces making their way into the finished product. FSIS is concerned that affected items remain in home, school, and institutional freezers.
