ROCKFORD — New technology will help the city collect speed and traffic data to aid in decisions about enforcement and infrastructure.
The city has contracted with Urban SDK to license software that utilizes geospatial data such as satellite imagery and GPS tracking systems to create hourly reports on average speeds and traffic volume on city streets. That data will be used in conjunction with physical tools such as portable radar trailers to understand traffic needs in the city.
“If it’s showing particular areas of town where the speeders are more prevalent during certain times of the day, even certain days of the week, we can deploy resources to that area for enforcement,” Police Chief Carla Redd said…
