Free Haunted Halloween Trail in Byron

In the mood for some Halloween family fun that won’t leave your wallet crying? Check out the Trail of Terror and Twisted Halls in Byron, Illinois.

Family-Friendly Halloween Scares

I love almost everything about the Halloween season. From the pumpkins and gourds to the costumes, candy and skeletons, I’m in on all of it … except one thing: the super scary stuff.

Jump scares and gore are definitely not my thing, so I always miss out on two of Halloween’s most popular traditions: haunted houses and scary movies.

When it comes to horror, I like to tread lightly; no movies or attractions that leave me afraid to go into my basement or lose sleep. Thankfully, there’s a haunted attraction in Byron that delivers spooky fun with less fright.

Halloween Magic in Byron, Illinois

Every October, Roy and Renee Motes transform their six-acre property on Hoisington Road in Byron into a full-blown Halloween destination. They create an awesome haunted trail through their property, and they even turn their pole barn into a legit haunted house.

This isn’t your average “drive by and look” kind of Halloween display. You need to get out and explore it for yourself. The Motes’ haunted trail experience gets bigger and better every year, and I haven’t told you the best thing about it yet:  it’s completely free to check out.

If you think those picture looking creepy during daylight, wait until you see them at night!

When to Visit the Trail of Terror

You can find the Motes’ haunted trails at 12112 North Hoisington Road in Byron. The Trail is open for your scaring pleasure Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays from 6 to 9 p.m. and from 6 to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays through October 31.

Here’s an important FYI for my fellow scaredy-cats: if you let the family know when you arrive that you’re nervous (or you’re bringing children who will be), they’ll tone down the terror during your walk through…
