ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – When Rockford’s veterans drop-in center closed last month, it left a gap for many veterans who relied on it for meals, connection and basic support. Now, a group of volunteers is stepping up to make sure those needs don’t go unmet.
The Ross-Pearson VFW Post on 7th Street offered its building as a temporary gathering space for local veterans. For just over a month, the group known as Homefront 815 Veterans Center has been serving hot meals five days a week.
“We are rounding them up, finding them, talking to them and telling them there is a warm meal. There’s kindness. You can share your stories, a place where you can feel at home,” said Ted Christo with Homefront 815 Veterans Center…
