ROCKFORD — Mayor Tom McNamara said it was a “shame” that the historic Elks Lodge No. 64 would be demolished, but he said his vote in favor of razing the building was the result of years of neglect from the owner.
The mayor made those comments on the This Week in the Stateline podcast a few days after casting the tiebreaking vote on Monday in favor of demolishing the 113-year-old building at the corner of Jefferson and Main streets in downtown.
