Rock Valley College (RVC) operates a Testing Center that supports the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP). CLEP is a national program that allows students to earn college credit by passing standardized exams in various subjects. The program is available to middle and high school students, adult learners, homeschoolers, military personnel, veterans, and incarcerated individuals.
Dr. Yahaira Hall, Dean of College Readiness & Learner Supports at RVC, noted the Testing Center’s work with CLEP. She mentioned collaboration with Sonia Medrano, the Testing Specialist, to expand access to the program. CLEP, run by the College Board, offers 34 exams in subjects such as math, science, history, literature, business, and foreign languages. Students who pass these exams can earn between 3 and 14 college credits per test, depending on the subject and college policies.
RVC partners with the Two-Way Language Immersion program at Barbour K–8 School. For the past three years, the Testing Center has organized Spanish CLEP testing for 8th graders, with about 72 students participating each year.
