Rockford’s Klehm Arboretum sundial turns heads this fall

With daylight saving time ending, the Harezlak Family Sundial at Klehm Arboretum & Botanic Garden offers some of the most striking views of the year.

The sundial, crafted from limestone, Corten steel and decorative gravel, honors the community contributions of Jean and Dennis Harezlak and their family, according to a community announcement. It tracks not only the time of day but also the month of the year as the sun travels across the sky.

“The Harezlak Family Sundial is a beautiful blend of art, science, and community spirit,” Alex Mills, executive director of Klehm Arboretum & Botanic Garden, said in the announcement. “We designed the surrounding landscape to shine in the fall. As the grasses take on rich seasonal color and the sun sits lower, the elongated shadows make the sundial even more dramatic and engaging for guests of all ages.”…
