ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — The Auburn Knights struggled to put the ball in the basket in the first half of their matchup with Hyde Park Wednesday night in the Fred VanVleet Classic at Auburn High School. It cost them. The Knights lost 64-53.The Knights trailed by 15 at the half 35-20. They shot only 4-15 from the field (26.7%) in the first quarter, and an even colder 2-11 from the field (18.2%) in the second quarter.The Knights found their rhythm in the second half. They made a run and pulled within four points, but they couldn’t get over the hump. Hyde Park pulled away again.Amare Leflore led Hyde Park with 23 points on 7-10 shooting from the field and 8-10 at the free throw line. Amir Danforth led Auburn with 16 points, but he made only 3 of 11 shots from deep. Champ Parker scored ten points for the Knights.Auburn is now 0-2 in the FVV Classic so far.
