Northern Illinois Snowfall Totals From The Weekend Storm

There are lots of people in Northern Illinois today who are having a rough time lifting their hands above their head because of the incredible amount of shoveling they did over the weekend, although I’m sure you snow-blower owners are feeling pretty good at this point.

Late November rarely treats us to a snowstorm like the one that hit on Saturday, November 29th, but this year really delivered. Across Northern Illinois, many towns and suburbs picked up 6 to 10 inches, with several pushing close to or above a foot.

Looking back at Rockford’s winter weather record should help put this storm in perspective. The all-time greatest single-day snowfall for Rockford remains 13.5 inches, recorded March 31st, 1926. So while this weekend’s snow was far from a historical record, it ranks as one of the more significant late-November storms in decades.

At the upper end of the scale was Freeport, which saw around 12.0 inches of accumulation, among the highest reported totals in the region. Other hard-hit spots included Round Lake Park (10.3 in), Palatine (10.1 in), and Antioch (about 10.0 in).
