2 new downtown venues win approval from Rockford City Council

ROCKFORD — City Council members on Monday gave liquor license approval to two new downtown venues coming in early 2026.

Aldermen voted 12-1 to OK a liquor license for Palace Wine Bar, 202 N. Main St., and 12-1 in favor of one for Cahoots Rockford, 505 N. Madison St. Alderman Frank Beach, who commonly votes against new liquor licenses, was the lone no vote.

Palace Wine Bar is envisioned as a cozy space for patrons to enjoy a rare collection of wines, spritzers and other drinks, including multiple non-alcoholic options. It fills the longtime Palace Shoe Repair and Downtown Shoes & Boutique space. Owners Mark Podemski and Lucretia Ristin have a goal to open in spring 2026…
