Northern Illinois sheriffs demand changes to SAFE-T Act

NORTHERN ILLINOIS (WTVO) — Several northern Illinois sheriffs are calling for changes to the SAFE-T Act after Governor JB Pritzker said he is open to revisiting the law.

Lee County Sheriff Clayton Whelan, Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle, and Whiteside County Sheriff John Booker issued statements Wednesday urging lawmakers to restore judicial discretion in pretrial detention, expand the list of detainable offenses, and prioritize victims’ rights.
